Title: Non-genetic individuality: modeling stochastic gene expression in single cells

Time: Saturday, June 21st, 2008.

Location: Department of Physics, Sharif University of Technology, Tehran

Abstract:

All biological organisms are unique. Most of the variation in the population is genetic. However, organisms and cells that share a common genetic background still show significant variation. In this talk I discuss recent experimental evidence for stochastic effects in gene expression that contributes to variation in cell populations. I discuss two sources of the noise, intrinsic and extrinsic and I describe how one can model each type of stochasticity.

If you are planning to go to Iran, you might consider giving a talk there as well.
