Background: Shared decision making (SDM) is a collaborative process that allows patients and clinicians to make this difficult decision together, taking into account the best evidence available as well as the patient’s values and preferences. Patients who participate in decisions about their health have better experiences, better outcomes and get better value for money. However, for clinicians to engage patients in SDM, they need new skills and thus SDM training is needed.
